Frankenfatstein Is Born- a founders bike is born

build shots

Back in the day Brant I always believed that the best On-One bikes we ever produced were the ones we wanted for ourselves , that defied convention , that were the niche of a niche , and ultimately were bikes that did not have a meaning or function but that we had an itch , an urge , a two  fingers in the air salute to the industry , and bottom line bikes we just really wanted ourselves .

These bikes have no place in what in our  meetings are now known as  "range planning"  - our current designers  look down their noses - our Financial guys ask "how many units will we sell" and rolls their eyes when I say "who cares I want one", staff look at me like I'm off my rocker and the organised ask "where's that sit in our product presentation  I don't understand" .

On-One was born of such bikes , the Inbred was our first  steel single speed frame at a time when there were no other such bikes around , the Pompino predated the fixie boom by years , and the Scandal was I believe the first 29er in Europe . These are the bikes that caught on and gained traction , many others such as the Gimp a 26/24 dirt jump frame was born and became extinct, the Runt was a small wheeled hard hitting dirt jumping BMX that survived only one production .   Our favourite bike over the years was the Compo a bike literally years ahead of its time that only lasted a season  was the first UK condition specific hardtail that evolved into the classic 456 that is now one of our mainstays .

Anyway , I digress and ramble , the point of this is to explain the birth of the Frankenfatstein which is a bike I just built for myself , I think it will be good fun to ride , it's just for me , it's my bike , I think it will be fabulous and pointless  . We probably won't sell any at all   and it doesn't sit in any bicycle range plan anywhere in the world  but I am excited - and that's what gets me out of bed every morning with a smile on my face and an itch to get into work , owning a bicycle business can be ACE !

It's fun and it's how every "bike project" should be: answering for a specific need, be it fancy or a must. Keep up the good work ;)
