The “Friday Night Eliminator” in Pickering town kicked things off- a series of mini races with 4 people starting each, top 2 going through to the next round and plenty of crazy action through garages and graveyards, down steps and over ramps. The atmosphere was electric as the riders smashed their way between the barriers lined with drunken enthusiasts...
Racing began Saturday morning with the junior men. These guys were quick. I mean mega quick. The Dalby circuit is notoriously technical and relentless and it was pretty shocking just how quick these riders were. Grant Ferguson was highest placed Brit in 5th place with excellent results for Bethany Crumpton and Katy Winton in the junior ladies event. In the Elite women Annie Last came home a respectable 14th- pretty impressive to say she is riding up a category and still has another 2 years left in the U23 ranks. Oli Beckingsale was back to his best and placed highest Brit in 23rd in the elite men’s race. The race was lead from start to finish by 29er riding Czech Jaroslav Kulhavy, rolling home with a huge margin of 50 seconds.
The Expo area was bursting with latest wares and we were no exception- the race ready XTR Whippet and Carbon 29er Race in a UK first alongside the latest Titus full sus models. Against a backdrop of newly updated On-One steel frames, the new “Maccinato” (mincer) steel fixie drew most attention. Not to mention a gorgeous Planet X Guru Nanolight road bike and European exclusive of the new Planet X carbon frame in “out there” yellow and green. Even the even the Belgian national squad were eyeing it up:
The next day began with an amber warning for gale force winds- excellent news when your stand is a 6x3m sail. Luckily the wind wasn’t strong enough to ruin an excellent day of racing and entertainment though...
Main event over, it was time to get out on the trail and give our own Carbon 456 and Summer Season Trail bikes a hammering in the woods- check out the homegrown talent…
That couldn’t quite compete with the awesome trials displays…
Which themselves unearthed a rare beauty (anyone else got an Audrey out there?)…
Anyway, it was great to see all you On-One fans and riders there and following the action as it happened on Facebook. Special thanks to the Coffee Stop camper van with the best espresso on the field!
See you all at the On-One Hundred- Yorkshire’s biggest MTB marathon event- coming to Dalby Forest 23rd-24th July….
