On-One Whippet XT Mountain Bike

The Whippet is based on our race-proven Scandal aluminium frame. The geometry and handling of the Scandal was raved about by racers who competed on it. Fast as feck on short XC races. Speedy angles. Comfortable to ride for hours and hours on end in Marathon and 24hr events. The rangy top tube gives you plenty of room to breath and manoeuvre around the bike. There was really very, very little that we could do to improve the geometry.

So we decided to take the Scandal to the next level and make it from the wonderful material that is carbon fibre. With carbon fibre we can be extremely specific about where we place frame material and where we can remove it.  We're able to put stiffness in places where it's desired. We're able to strike a balance between comfort and power. This is the sort of chassis tuning that you simply cannot do with aluminium or steel. The Whippet comes in at an impressive 1300g.

Oversize headtube running an integrated headset for low-slung stack height. Low front ends are great for both climbing and on technical trails. The front end of the Whippet puts you in a great position for laying the power down on climbs and sprints. It also helps you nail the front tyre to the dirt for really railing corners and furious twisting tracks in tight trees. Yer classic elbows-out racerboy aggro basically.

The bottom bracket shell is the class-leading, stiff-as-flip BB92 standard. The Whippet frame was designed specifically to work with a new breed of double chainsets for XC competition use. It features an oversized super wide bottom bracket shell which increases stiffness and makes for optimal power transfer. See below for compatibility details.

Unlike a lot of companies, we've kept the chainstays as short as possible without having to do any weird curvy stuff with the seat tube. Curvy seat tubes can really foul up the sat-down geometry if you have legs that longer or shorter than average. We've done this by taking the bold decision to make the Whippet only accept direct-mount front mechs. The lack of mech clamp - and behind-the-seat-tube gubbins - frees up loads of room to bring the rear wheel in closer to the BB. Not only that, there's still loads of room for mud clearance and properly fat tyres.

With this unbeatable bundle deal we've opted to go with a RockShox Reba RL Dual Air 100mm fork. This is a perfect match for the Whippet. Light, stiff, chock-full of modern features. Dual air chambers enable you to precisely fine-tune how you want the fork to behave as the race course dictates. Soggy, mudfest? Run the fork on the firm, progressive side. Technical, rocky or rooty? Open things up and let the fork work its wonders. Obviously you can just set-and-forget and simply get on with ragging your bike as fast as you can. Any way you choose to set up the damping, there's always the Lockout available for when absolute power-delivery is more important than traction, handling or comfort.

The On-One Whippet comes with a full Shimano XT groupset - possibly the finest all-round mountainbike groupset yet produced. Tough enough to deal with being battered. Light enough to give an overall bike weight that can cut it at the highest level. Unsurpassed reliability.

The rest of the finishing kit on the bike is appropriately uncompromising too. Schwalbe Racing Ralph tubeless tyres spinning on a lightweight On-One XC QR wheelset.
