The Codeine has been away while we experimented on it in our secret test lab. Sure it was perfect when originally launched, but new products become available and a frame this good deserves the most up to date spec possible. We're happy with our new choices and we're sure you will be too.
A true On-One suspension frame, designed from the ground up, and crafted to be the bike we wanted to ride. It's a 29er, it's got 140mm up front and 130mm at the rear, it runs a single chainring alongside big tyres, and most importantly, it's a huge amount of fun to ride. Rear suspension duties are handled by the new Rockshox Monarch Plus Debonair. It provides endless suspension feel, is super plush from top to bottom and has greater small bump sensitivity- and it looks sick with your Pikes and Reverb.
The Codeine has been benchmarked against every bike we've thrown our leg over. Hand welded from custom formed 7005-T6 aluminium tubing, with CNC machined fitments, rolling bearings and Torx bolts on all fittings; the Codeine chassis is designed to be stiff and durable in both racing and recreation. Every weld, every contour, every measurement has been informed by over a decade of riding trail, downhill and enduro geometries, but the outcome is utterly unique.
So, what about the geometry? It's our very own Winch and Plummet. Steep seat angles for prime pedalling power, Low BB, and matched head angle, wheelbase and chainstay length providing dynamic handling. We've agonised over every mm and made sure we, and consequently you, get the most out of the available big wheel technology.
A flagship frame like this needs a partner in crime, and we're not settling for anything less than SRAM X01 1x11 transmission. The Codeine doesn't run a front mech, why? Because we didn't want it to. SRAM's XO1 provides you with all the gear ratio you need, plenty for winching up the steepest walls and enough top-end to ensure you don't spin out on the way down. Even though we're huge fans of SRAM's narrow - wide chainring profile we have to accept that in the most extreme circumstances you can still bounce a chain off even with a clutch mech. With that in mind we've fitted a top spec MRP 1X chainguide so your chain will stay on- no matter how crazy you get. (Please note - the Codeine comes with a SRAM X1 Chainset)
Braking duties are now handled by SRAM's Guide R brakes, we love them for their great modulation, reliable stopping power and wide range of lever and pad adjustments. With XO1 leaving space on the left hand side of the Knuckleball carbon handlebar we run the Reverb lockout lever upside-down keeping it out of harm's way and decluttering your handlebar. Last but by no means least we've upgraded the wheels to Sram's lightweight, high-performance, trail ready Roam 30 wheelset. You'll spin up to speed faster due to their quick pick-up and descend with more confidence as a result of their wider rim profile. Match them to our tubeless ready, dual compound tyres and you have everything you need to propel you up-hill and down dale.
The Codeine is for trail riders, enduro racers and generally people that like hitting things hard and fast. No doubt the top-level 140mm RockShox Pikes, 130mm Rockshox Monarch Plus Debonair and 125mm Reverb dropper aid this, but only alongside our cutting edge frame design. When everything is pulled together the result is undoubtedly the finest bike we've produced to date, and we know it's the one you've all been waiting for. Well here it is, back once again. Enjoy.
